About
About pacvivo
There is nothing to sign up for at PacVivo. It is a running pace and race-time calculator, it does one thing — converts between pace, distance and finish time and predicts marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K times from a recent race — and it gives you the answer without first asking who you are.
What PacVivo is for
Plenty of everyday-utility pages already exist. Most of them make you dismiss a banner, ignore a modal and scroll past filler before the tool appears. PacVivo inverts that: the tool is the page, it converts between pace, distance and finish time and predicts marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K times from a recent race, and everything else is explanation you can read or skip.
The method behind it
The whole calculation is client-side JavaScript. What happens is this: it predicts using the Riegel formula, where the predicted time scales as the ratio of the distances raised to the power 1.06, which is why an equivalent performance at twice the distance is a little slower than twice the time. Because the method is published here, any disagreement you find can be traced to a particular step instead of being blamed on a black box.
Where your data goes
Your input stays local: your recent race time and distance are handled entirely by the page and never leave your device. You can turn off your connection after loading and the tool still works, which is the simplest proof that nothing is being sent.
Who uses it
- anyone who needs the answer in a single step.
- people on a slow or metered connection.
- readers who dislike registering for a calculator.
Keeping the lights on
PacVivo is free to use and supported by advertising. Adverts are kept off the working part of the page, and no advertiser receives anything you type. If a page ever becomes slow or intrusive, that is a bug worth reporting.
